Joe McElderry hits the top spot

Joe McElderry hits the top spot

Joe McElderry is a happy boy today. He has finally beaten Rage Against The Machine on the UK chart.

Just a few weeks back when a Facebook campaign got underway to rage against Simon Cowell’s Christmas chart monopoly, X-Factor winner Joe McElderry said he had not even heard the Rage Against The Machine song 'Killing In The Name’.

When he finally did get to hear the 1992 Rage Against The Machine classic he described it as 'awful'.

Last week, the Facebook campaign worked and McElderry came in at number two. This week, he moved ahead of Rage to go to number one and take off the final chart topper of the year in the UK.

McElderry’s cover of the Miley Cyrus hit 'The Climb’ sold 196,000 copies in the UK in the past week. The Rage Against The Machine song moved to second spot.

Incidentally, when 'Killing In The Name’ first graced the UK chart in 1993, it peaked at number 23.
