Katy Perry to become a Smurf


KATY PERRY is set to provide her voice for a film based on the Smurfs, reports have said.

The singer is said to be in talks to portray Smurfette, one of the creatures created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford in 1958.

According to Variety, British actor Alan Cumming and Doogie Howser M.D. star Neil Patrick Harris are also linked to the project.

Raja Gosnell will reportedly direct the film, which will a mixture of live-action and animation and is set for release in 2011.

The Smurfs were the stars of a popular 1980s TV series and were known for their blue skin, white hats and mushroom houses.

Their complexion has been compared in recent months to that of the aliens in sci-fi hit Avatar - dubbed "Dancing with Smurfs" by one online critic.
