Quick quips: Tony Bennett, Paul McCartney, the Big Four, Ronnie James Dio
Email this story Printable version Tony Bennett will lead a salute to Amy Winehouse at this Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards. It's his first appearance on the program since 1993. Bennett and Winehouse recorded Body & Soul shortly before her death for his album Duets II. It took 50 years, but Decca has finally signed Paul McCartney. The label famously turned down the Beatles for a contract in their early days but has signed Paul to put out the music from his ballet Ocean's Kingdom. The work debuts with the New York City Ballet on September 22 and will be released on October 3. A number of New York business owners are so concerned about the Big Four (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) show coming up at Yankee Stadium that they've asked authorities for additional police to patrol the streets. The first annual Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund Gala will be held on November 1 at, of all places, the Playboy Mansion. A live superstar band is being promised but tickets for the event will set you back $750.
