Journey Hits With Steve Perry Soundalike

(June 11) - No, that's not Steve Perry singing with Journey, but an incredible simulation. The classic rockers had already gotten a late-career boost from having their 'Don't Stop Believing' included in the final scene of 'The Sopranos.' Now, they are getting buzz from their new frontman, a 40-year-old Filipino singer named Arnel Pineda that guitarist Neal Schon discovered on YouTube performing a cover of 'Faithfully' with his band, The Zoo.
Journey auditioned Pineda and he was almost immediately selected to join the band.Pineda's powerful tenor is a dead ringer for Perry's, who left the band in 1995. Journey had gone with singer Steve Augeri in the years following Perry's departure before Augeri had to leave the band because of serious throat problems (vocalist Jeff Scott Soto filled the gap between Augeri and Pineda)."(Perry) set the bar high," Journey bassist Ross Valory told CBS about the band's former lead singer, who now has strained relations with his former band mates. "He's left us with a very highly-valued legacy of music. And the way I think we all feel now is, we have someone to honor that with."Pineda's first effort with Journey, the three-disc set 'Revelation.' hit stores in early June. In addition to 11 new songs, it also included re-recorded classic tracks with Pineda at the wheel.Ben Ratliff from the New York Times approved of Pineda's debut. "Pineda, who sings hard and with the appropriate vulnerability, gives it some distinction. Beyond that, the band seems to have taken rock vitamins: it feels alive," he wrote.Spinner's Summer Tour Countdown: The Top 20 Shows

Radiohead

On the Road: August 1 - August 28
It's no fluke that Radiohead are capable of maintaining their indie cred no matter how enormous they get. They are always pushing the creative boundaries with every aspect of their career, and their live show is no different. But really, just hearing the band perform songs from the hauntingly beautiful 'In Rainbows' is reason enough not to miss out. (Thom Yorke's hypnotic, manic dancing should be pretty entertaining, too.) Continue on Spinner >>>
