Peabody record new album on Nirvana 8-track

Rascally Sydney rockers Peabody have recorded their fourth album on the 8-track that Nirvana recorded Bleach.

It's a nice little hook but the album, dubbed Loose Manifesto, is sure to have many, many more.

The four-piece recorded it in four days shacked up in Sydney's Ball's Head overlooking ships and an old coal loading dock.

Supposedly espousing the absurdist anti-art themes of Dada, Loose Manifesto will no doubt be as smart, and occasionally smart-arsed, as previous efforts 2008's Prospero, 2005's The New Violence and 2002's Professional Againster.

As a teaser, Peabody have cleared the decks on their myspace for the first single 'Black Narcissus', named for Rumer Godden's novel about colonial India (which was turned into a film in 1947).

It's another ripping rock song, which still retains Peabody's signature riffing inventiveness.

Loose Manifesto will be released on October 1.

The talk show host decided to quit her judging role after just one season because it wasn't the "right fit" for her, while the pretty songwriter is said to have been asked to leave as part of a shakeup of the programme following head judge Simon Cowell's departure.

Explaining her departure in a statement, Ellen said: "A couple months ago, I let FOX and the 'American Idol' producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.

"I also realised this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had, I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."

Meanwhile, gossip website TMZ reports that the show will return to having just three judges, with Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith star Steven Tyler favourites to join Randy Jackson.

The website states: "Sources connected with the 'American Idol' negotiations tell TMZ Kara DioGuardi has judged her last contestant on 'American Idol' - because she's been fired.

"We're told the show will be going back to a three-judge format and assuming all deals are finalised, the judge's panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

"We're told the only way Kara could get a reprieve is if the J-Lo deal falls apart - but we're told that deal is done."

Singer-and-actress Jennifer has reportedly been in talks with show boss Simon Fuller for several weeks.

The socialite ' who has been single since splitting with The Hills star Doug Reinhardt earlier this year ' admits she finds it difficult to date someone in the public eye and is looking for a more low-key romance next time.

She said: 't's really hard in my position just being in a relationship, because so much goes along with it.

'The media are constantly making up stories and it's just hard to know if you can trust a guy who has fame.

''d rather be with someone who's not in the public eye ' I think it just makes it easier, and I don't know there's so much that comes along with it. I'd rather be with someone who's not in this world.'

Despite her single status, the 29-year-old star says she is happier than ever as she has had more quality time to spend on herself and with her loved ones.

She added in an interview with heat magazine: ''m so happy right now. I'm spending time with my girlfriends and my sister and my family and just really getting to know myself. I've always had a boyfriend, so right now it's really important for me just to focus on me and my life and not really put all that energy into someone else.

A woman claiming to be the love child of Michael Jackson has demanded a DNA test to prove he is her father.

Mocienne Petit Jackson has filed documents with the Los Angeles County Superior Court stating as she is the offspring of the late 'King of Pop' she should receive an inheritance cheque following his death in June 2009.

According to gossip website TMZ, she alleges she was conceived in 1975 when the 'Bad' singer impregnated her mother Barbara ' who she claims is the sister of soul singer Diana Ross ' when he was just 17 years old.

However, Mocienne claims an elaborate cover-up plot was then hatched by Michael's mother, Katherine Jackson, so the world would never know about the singer's indiscretion.

She claims when she was nine, Katherine decided to fake an 'abduction' of her in the hope of protecting Michael's reputation.

According to Mocienne ' who now lives in the Netherlands ' all seven of her supposed abductors were then murdered after taking her to Belgium.

The legal documents state the woman claims she has now been diagnosed with Vitiligo ' the same skin condition Michael suffered from ' and has launched court action to 'formally claim part of her father's inheritance'.

The superstar's children ' Prince Michael, 13, Paris, 12, and eight-year-old Prince Michael II, known as 'Blanket' ' have been in the custody of Katherine since their father passed away, but Mocienne is seeking to claim legal guardianship of them to give the kids 'a more normal life'.

This is not the first love child mystery to have surfaced since the pop legend's death.

In 2009, 25-year-old Norwegian dancer Omer Bhatti was rumoured to be his son, the result of a one night stand between his mother Pia and the 'Billie Jean' hitmaker in 1984.

Omer ' who lived at the singer's Neverland ranch for several years - later denied Michael was his biological father, but revealed the singer used to tell him he was "like a son" to him.

The 'Mean Girls' star began her 90-day sentence at the Century Regional Correctional Facility in Lynwood, California last Tuesday (20.07.10) and though inmates are required to remove hair extensions and false eyelashes on arrival to the jail, the 24-year-old actress was allowed to keep hers.

Alexis Neiers ' who was in the cell next to the actress ' said: "When she came in, she had her head down when she walked by but she was in oranges, just like us.

"She got to keep her extensions in and everything, which most people don't, and the girls were like, 'Ah, they had to take my weave out and cut it all out,' stuff like that.'

Alexis ' who was released from prison on Friday (23.07.10) after serving a 30-day sentence for burgling Orlando Bloom's house ' admitted she didn't have any direct contact with Lindsay, but could hear her crying in her cell.

She said in an interview with E! News: "She was crying. She was talking to deputies and, you know, just trying to - I couldn't really like make it out, but from what I saw the first day, she was lying in there and trying to calm down."

Alexis advised Lindsay to stay strong in order to 'get through' the remainder of her sentence.

She added: "I wish her the best, honestly, but you know, it's all up to your mindset, and I don't know what her mindset is in there.

'From what I understand, she was having medical attention and I'm sure she was just trying to get through the days. It's hard."

Although Lindsay was sentenced to 90 days in prison for breaching the terms of probation she was set following a 2007 driving under the influence (DUI) conviction, the actress is expected to be released before the end of the month.

After leaving jail, the troubled star must then undertake a court-ordered 90-day stint in a rehabilitation facility.

She said: 'A friend of mine told me you can create a tattoo with pen ink and a safety pin and I was like, 'That's amazing. I could give tattoos at anywhere in the world at any hotel.' I saw this hot dude recently and I gave him a tattoo sitting in the lobby of the hotel. I was just like, 'Can I borrow a pen and a sewing kit?' I think I got an admirer out of that one.'

The 23-year-old pop star ' who is known for being outspoken and for her eccentric dress sense ' also revealed she has a unique way of flirting with men in bars.

She said: 'Five years ago I thought I'd be dead, or real close to it, by now. It's one of those things where other people's tragedy brings it home. The amount of people who have died this year alone from the same stuff I've done is scary.

'The biggest drug dealers in the world are doctors. And there are a lot of doctors in Los Angeles.'

However, the 26-year-old star ' who recently split from fiance Luke Worrall ' explained she now enjoys a more sedate lifestyle, and has swapped wild nights out for sweating it out at the gym.

She said: ' don't go out in LA. What am I going to do in a club? I've done it a million times since I was 12! If I want to dance, I'll put on my CD player and dance around my room.

Long term friends and pioneering electronic musical comrades LCD Soundsystem & Hot Chip have announced they will play a series of special co-headline shows in the UK this autumn.

LCD Soundsystem recently released their third album 'This Is Happening' to mass critical acclaim. Since then, the speculation has continued to build that this is their final album and the prelude to the end! The Cars, or at least the surviving members, have hinted at a reformation via Facebook.

The band subtly put a photo of themselves up on their facebook fan page showing the surviving members jamming in a studio.

The photo shows Ric Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes and David Robinson looking laid back and happy.

There is no official announcement, no caption to the photo, no nothing, but we can safely assume the band are letting us know that they're back.

In 2005, Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes formed 'The New Cars' with Todd Rundgren, Prairie Prince and Kasim Sulton where they played a mix of Cars and Rundgren tracks, but this will be the first time the band has properly reunited since their disbanding in 1988.

The band had several hits including 'Drive', 'Just What I Needed' and 'You Might Think'. Various members have gone on to record solo albums.

One of the band's two lead singers Ric Ocasek has produced albums from Weezer, Bad Religion, No Doubt, Suicide, Hole and Motion City Soundtrack amongst others. The other, Benjamin Orr died of pancreatic cancer on October 3, 2000.

Yes, Katy Perry's new album will smell like marshmallows.

No lie. Katy Perry's album third album (and second since her sexy secular reinvention) will be called Teenage Dream and will smell like marshmallows.

We can't stress this enough.

The twelve-track album's cover features the singer nude and wrapped in a cloud of cotton candy, much like her 'California Gurls' clip.

A press release specifies that a treatment on the packaging will make it smell like cotton candy/marshmallows. Basically, vanilla-y sugar.

The album has had an incredible start with first single 'California Gurls', featuring Snoop Dogg, topping the charts the world over.

Teenage Dream will come out on August 27. It will smell like marshmallows.

Sonic Youth, The Kills to appear on Elijah Wood charity album

Sonic Youth, The Kills and Black Mountain are just some of the artists that have donated tracks to Elijah Wood’s charity compilation.

The album will be called 'Elysium: A Benefit For The Art of Elysium’ and will raise money for, you guessed it, The Art of Elysium, which is a charity that encourages working actors, artists and musicians to dedicate their time and talent to children battling serious medical conditions.

Elijah Wood has musical cred, having signed Apples In Stereo to his Simian Records label.

It looks like he was in fine musical form with the song selections here though.

The-Dream talks of being a dad

The-Dream finds it easier being a father now he’s rich.

The rapper became a father for the fourth time earlier this year after wife Christina Milian gave birth to daughter Violet and says it was a lot harder raising his three children from a previous marriage because they struggled for money.

He told People: 'This time’s easier because I’m rich now. When I had my five-year-old, I was up all night and paying for milk with the last couple of cents I had, so it’s a little easier now.'

However, the musician – real name Terius Nash – admits he finds it hard to spend one-on-one time with the tot because of how close Christina and Violet are.

He said: 'Christina’s very attached. She doesn’t let anybody near that baby. Not even me sometimes!'

But The-Dream loves every moment of being a father and wants all his children to help out others in life.

He said: 'What I look forward to the most is influencing an individual to go out into the world and make the world a better place.'

Before Violet was born, The-Dream lavished the unborn baby with gifts, including a car.

He revealed: "The baby already has a car, I got a house just for the baby - Christina can't get in the baby's car. I'm giving all my attention that I usually give to Christina to the baby, all the flowers I usually give Christina, I'm giving them to the baby."

The 26-year-old pop star is set to appear in long-running British comic

The Beano as a singing sidekick to bad girl character Minnie the Minx.

And Cheryl is not the only famous face making an appearance in the publication’s pages, England soccer player Wayne Rooney is also set to appear in a number of issues.

A Beano spokesman said: "Minnie the Minx will be meeting Cheryl and Wayne in a run of stories which will coincide with the school summer holidays.

"They are both hugely popular with readers and I'm sure they'll be thrilled at the prospect of them coming face to face with a British institution, in the shape of Minnie."

Cheryl, 26, will perform a duet with Minnie, while Wayne, 24, will do battle with her on the pitch.

Publishers DC Thomson are believed to have been inspired to feature Cheryl after seeing her in an Alexander McQueen-designed red-and-black striped outfit – the same colours red-haired Minnie wears - in the video for her hit single 'Fight for This Love'.

Strummerville Campfire at Glastonbury

Strummerville will be kicking off this year's festival tour at their natural home, Glastonbury festival. They will be lighting the campfire (the biggest campfire at Glastonbury) Thursday night and keep it burning till Monday morning.

Situated in the Unfair Ground field in the exact same spot where Joe Strummer used to have his fire, the strummerville campfire sessions will start at midnight every night and will run until 3am. Confirmed acoustic performances from bands include a mixture of Strummerville supported bands and bands who are fans of Joe Strummer himself, such as: The Drums, I Blame Coco, Beans on Toast, Handshake, Sound of Rum, Ali Love, Lissie, Fionn Regan, Frank Turner, Depot, Nat Jenkins and many, many more (some who can't be announced!).

No times will be announced for any performance, the best way to find out is to swing by and say hi during the day to find out who's playing that night, rest your feet on our many sofas, grab a tea from the cafe or take part in our drumming workshops.

For Joe Strummer, the idea of a "campfire" - any loose assembly of people bonded by the rising flames and the advancing dawn - became an art form in itself.
