JLS to help Rio Ferdinand launch new charity

JLS to help Rio Ferdinand launch new charity

Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand today unveiled details for the launch event for his new charity the Rio Ferdinand Live The Dream Foundation. The charity aims to establish a series of centres in deprived areas to mentor teens and is designed to raise levels of aspiration, opportunity and achievement for all young people in the UK and overseas.

The glitzy launch event will take place on the 16th December at the Old Billingsgate in London where Rio will be joined by special guests and celebrities including top Premiership players like Frank Lampard, along with the likes of Robbie Williams, JLS and David Furnish to name but a few. Award-winning comedian James Corden has signed up as the host for the star studded event to unveil Rio’s Live the Dream Foundation.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Rio said: 'I've always been passionate about helping those who haven't had the best start in life - particularly young people. I was fortunate enough to realise my potential as a footballer and I want to help others do the same in whatever area that they believe they have the skills.

'Essentially, the foundation is a vehicle to reach out to young people and provide them with the resources they need to unlock their potential. The Live the Dream Foundation will help to change lives.'

The new charity recognises that young people everywhere are motivated and enthused by a range of cultural, sports and arts activities – from music to photography, film to football and dance to drama, but are often unaware of the opportunities available within these industries to turn a passion for the activity into a career in the industry.

Chris Nathaniel, NVA Management CEO and co-founder of the Live the Dream Foundation said: "Rio's always had a very clear vision of how he wanted the foundation to proactively reach out to young people without replicating what other charities are already doing. The direct involvement of someone of Rio’s profile is going to help keep pushing the importance of investing in young people higher up the agenda.'

Through the achievements, networks and partnerships of the Foundation’s trustees and partners, the Rio Ferdinand Live The Dream Foundation will deliver programmes of activity that will introduce young people to new activities, uncover new talent, provide accredited training and vocational skills, offer work placements, deliver careers workshops and support participants into education, training and employment.

The Spice Girls musical will be called ‘Viva Forever’

The girl group have chosen to name the proposed musical after their 1998 number one hit and the script for the show is presently being written.

The musical – which will tell the rags-to-riches rise to fame of the five members, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Mel C and Emma Bunton – is being written by Kim Fuller, who also penned the script for the group’s 1997 film 'Spiceworld’. Kim is the sister of former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller.

The production will feature 14 of the band’s biggest songs, and is set to begin on November 5 next year.

It has previously been reported the group will hold a talent search to find the cast who will play the Spices on stage.

A source said: "It's a fantastic new way to broaden out the Spice franchise and cash in on their personalities, their story and their songs.

"The girls would have to work intensely on a TV show for a short period of time. But then they can launch a musical which could run for months or even years.

"It will take on a life of its own. The concept could even be replicated in other countries. The sky is the limit with this one."

The Spice Girls, who formed in 1994, last performed together in Toronto, Canada, in February 2008.

Miley Cyrus thinks she is the 'coolest person ever'

Miley Cyrus thinks she is the coolest person ever

The 'Hannah Montana’ star is never scared of meeting other famous people because she is far trendier than everyone she knows.

When asked if she gets star-struck, she replied: 'No, I’m pretty cool. I’m pretty much the coolest person ever, no, I’m pretty cool. I’m pretty much the coolest person ever.'

Although she is a world famous star, 17-year-old Miley does have something in common with her fellow teenagers – she has a crush on 'High School Musical’ heartthrob Zac Efron

During an interview with Sirius XM radio show 'The Morning Mash Up’, she said: 'There are not many things about me that are like a normal teenage girl. But the one normal teenage girl thing is that I think Zac Efron is the hottest person in the world. I really, really like him. And it’s weird, it’s weird because he’s my friend. I think also the reason he is so sexy is because he and Vanessa Hudgens have been together since the first 'High School Musical’ and, I think that’s really cool.'

Zac, 22, isn’t the only actor Miley thinks is hot. She quipped: 'Johnny Depp is way hotter than Robert Pattinson, for sure.'

Russell Brand called Katy Perry every 15 minutes from fetish club

Russell Brand phoned girlfriend Katy Perry every 15 minutes while out at a fetish club.

The 34-year-old British comedian – who is known for his womanising ways and has been linked with a string of famous beauties over the years – has been dating the ''I Kissed a Girl’ singer for the past two months and is desperate to prove he can be faithful.

Russell – who was at the launch of a 'decadent fetish' club in east London called Porn Dwarf - reportedly spent most of the evening dashing out to his car to ring his 25-year-old girlfriend to prove nothing was going on.

A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: 'Russell agreed to go to the club opening as it was being launched by a few of his friends. Everyone was wearing leather – it’s billed as a decadent fetish night, so Russell got into the spirit of things.

'Dwarfs were working behind the bar and at one point Russell was seen having a deep and meaningful chat with a midget, gushing about the love of his life.'

Russell has previously pledged himself to Katy and insisted he will not get intimate with anyone other than her.

He quipped: "I've taken a pledge. I can't break it now. There will be no more threesomes."

Kelly Osbourne fears she will turn to drink and drugs when 'Dancing with the Stars’ ends.

The 25-year-old presenter is concerned she will lapse back into substance abuse when she has more time on her hands but is doing her best to avoid repeating her self-destructive habits.

Kelly – who is in the final of the US TV talent show - said: 'When I’m busy and not left with me in my own head I’m fine.

'I worry about when the show stops – slipping back into negativity, drink and drugs. I’m taking precautions so I won’t get in that position. My life when I drink is so dark and miserable.'

Although Kelly has been sober since she left a rehab clinic in February, she has no problem with others drinking alcohol around her and has even postponed her wedding to 19-year-old Luke Worrall until he is old enough to drink in America, where the legal age is 21.

Kelly – who mainly lives in the US - told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: 'Luke and I are engaged and we’ll get married when I want to. But he isn’t even 21 yet, so he can’t drink in America so what’s the point in getting married until he can?'

Luke turns 21 in December 2011.

Lily Allen doesn’t care if people copy her CD

Lily Allen doesn’t care if people copy her CD

Lily Allen has made a U-turn in her stance on music piracy.

The 'Not Fair’ singer – who launched a scathing attack on illegal file-sharing on her MySpace blog and attacked indie group Radiohead for giving their latest album away on a pay-what-you-want basis – claims she doesn’t care if people copy her albums and sell them on for a profit.

Lily, 24, told UK radio station Key 103 Radio: 'If someone comes up with a burnt copy of my CD and offers it to you for £4, I haven’t a problem with that as long as the person buying it places some kind of value on my music.'

In Lily’s original blog post she said downloading was starving up-and-coming artists of money they need to keep producing music, and attacked the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) – whose members include Travis singer Fran Healy, Blur drummer Dave Rowntree and Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien.

She wrote: "I'm going to be writing to British artists, saying just this: File sharing's not OK for British music. We need to find new ways to help consumers access and buy music legally, but saying file sharing's fine is not helping anyone - and definitely not helping British music."

The FAC recently called for the British government to abandon proposals to cut off the internet connections of people who illegally download music.

Shakira talks libido

Shakira talks libido

Shakira thinks 'libido is the engine of the world.'

The 'She-Wolf’ singer insists that sexual desire has more of an impact on the world than religion and believes people need to give in to their natural urges for the good of humanity.

She said: "I do think libido is the engine of the world. Forward or backwards. For good or ill. Sometimes when we repress our libido we regress. When we were in the Dark Ages, it was a question of humanity somehow managing to forget about itself. We put God in the centre of society, and people forgot about their own nature and desires. There was a huge deal of repression.'

The 32-year-old singer says that as she gets older, she is becoming increasingly comfortable with herself and her desires.

She explained: "Every day now I discover something new. Go through phases in which I feel much more in touch with my feminine side, in ways I never thought possible. I'm letting the woman inside of me speak, the desires of this woman, speak as loud as they can."

Shakira also believes society is changing to be more accepting but admits even she was surprised when she got positive feedback from an elderly nun over the raunchy video for her single 'She-Wolf’.

She added to Britain’s Observer newspaper: 'Not too long ago my mum ran into one nun at home, who'd known me, and the nun told her, 'Oh my God, I watched the 'She-Wolf’ video, and Shakira looks phenomenal in it! I love how she looks, how she does the splits, and how flexible her legs are.' This was an 80-year-old nun. Times are changing."

Ronan Keating suffering anxiety attacks since Stephen Gately’s death

The Boyzone singer has been devastated since his bandmate passed away last month and admits he is still struggling to come to terms with his grief and has been left emotionally exhausted by the tragedy.

He said: "I just feel worn out. I haven't slept. My brain doesn't work. My heart's broken. You just feel crushed. I've had good days and bad days.
'The bad days are horrible, it’s like the walls are coming in on top of you. Anxiety I think is what they call it.

"I haven't been sleeping at all lately. It's been horrible. We've all been feeling the same way since Stephen passed. Mentally I'm absolutely exhausted.

'There's times when you feel like you can't breathe, you know, when you're panicking and I'm not like that. I've always been on a level."

Ronan – whose mother Marie died of cancer in 1998 – admits he is even considering having therapy to help him through his grief.

He added to Britain’s Observer newspaper: 'I've never before thought about going to get help with counsellors. For the first time ever I think I should.

'When I lost my mum it was the hardest thing at the time I'd ever known in my life but because she was sick for two years and we were told three months before she died that she had three months left, subconsciously you build a wall, your defence mechanism goes up and you prepare yourself for that.

'Whereas with Steo, there was nothing, just this wall of devastation, shock. I don't think it has hit any of us properly.'

Stephen died aged 33 from an acute pulmonary oedema, a build-up of fluid in the lungs, at his holiday home in Majorca on October 10.

Dannii Minogue ready to marry

The 38-year-old star – who was previously married to actor Julian McMahon and was engaged to racing driver Jacques Villeneuve – had vowed never to wed again but admits she has had a change of heart since meeting model Kris Smith.

Asked if the couple plan to marry, she said: 'It’s a possibility – watch this space! I never thought I’d be saying this but, yes, I’ve found the guy I want to be with forever.

'I’d given up on love but then, as a few girlfriends had told me, it’s when you’ve given up looking that you meet that special someone.'

The Australian beauty also admits she was too scared to approach Kris when she first saw him until a friend forced an introduction.

She explained to Britain’s Cosmopolitan magazine: 'I wouldn’t have even spoken to him on that fateful night had the friend I was with not caught us looking at each other, finally saying, 'I can’t stand this anymore. I’m going to invite him over.’

'I was mortified, saying 'Don’t! I won’t speak to him if you do!’ And even when Kris did introduce himself, I acted really cool, thinking we’d have nothing in common. It just goes to prove how wrong you can be.'

Beach House return to UK with 'Teen Dream'

Beach House return to UK with Teen Dream

BEACH HOUSE return on 25th January, 2010 with 'Teen Dream', their third - and first classic - album, on Bella Union records.

The Beach House you’re about to meet isn’t the same you may remember from before. Lives have been shuffled, tangled and re-aligned.

When Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally returned home to their hometown of Baltimore last Winter, they were worn thin from touring and travel. But deep inside them hot energies were incubating, ideas they had been whispering back in forth in the wake of their sophomore full-length, 2008’s Devotion. By Spring they began handing themselves over completely to those impulses, holing themselves up and exchanging ideas in a new, secluded practice space for dangerously long periods of time. As the songs that would become Teen Dream began to live, breathe and take shape, the duo was forced to leave much of their personal lives behind them. 'We’re the same people, but this record has changed our directions,' Legrand muses. 'We were forced to let go of people and things we were holding onto as individuals: normalcy, daily rituals, the ability to take care of ourselves. We were dropped into a wilderness, but we had more clarity than we’ve ever had before.'

Still driven to avoid distraction, the two marched further into isolation, deciding to bottle up all those wild visions away from home. They packed up their lives and settled into a converted church in upstate New York with producer Chris Coady. For a month they continued the birthing process, sweating and pushing out sounds inside a cocoon of their very own weaving. 'It wasn’t about arriving at a church and it revolutionizing a feeling,' Scally notes. 'It was a continuation of what we were doing without disruption. Whenever something good happens, we look at each other and we know that was it. It’s instinctual and it’s private.' Through the course of a month, they chased down songs and dark rushes, the creative telepathy that Scally and Legrand share together taking a strangely physical hold. 'There’s a different level of intimacy, a physicality on Teen Dream,' Legrand explains, pacing back and forth. 'Rhythmically, there’s new motion. This record touches you. On your chest.'

The skyward pulse of 'Walk In The Park' and '10 Mile Stereo' elicit just those reactions, two vibrant, volcanic examples of a record and band bursting at its incandescent seams. It is without question, more expansive and moving than anything they have shared before. 'I’m ready to give it away,' Legrand says of this, their first effort as part of the Sub Pop family. 'I’m done holding onto it. I want to give it away, I want it to become something else for people. It is born now.'

Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand are from Baltimore, Maryland. They are not a couple and Teen Dream is their third full-length album.

Paris Hilton neighbours call police after she pushes boyfriend

Police were called to break-up an argument between Paris Hilton and her boyfriend.

Officers were called to the socialite's Los Angeles home after neighbours allegedly saw her and Doug Reinhart "shoving each other" and screaming loudly.

According to gossip website TMZ, Doug went to get into his car, prompting Paris to scream, "Don't go, don't go", before they started rowing, eventually going back inside the property.

Police responded after being alerted to "drunk people arguing" and spoke to the 28-year-old heiress before leaving.

Despite the reports, Paris insists her neighbour was mistaken and she and Doug, 24, were not involved in the altercation.

She said: "Doug and I were in bed, sound asleep, when Doug's houseguests from hell got into an argument. We had nothing to do with it. Doug told the LAPD that his guests' fight was over and that we had nothing to do with it."

The Sugababes singer – who was comitted to a centre last month after the pressures of the band’s recent line-up change took their toll – is feeling great after her three-week stay in an Austrian clinic, which she says was to help with her confidence problems.

She said: 'I’m really good. I’m happy happy! Haha! I heard I went to some depression clinic. It wasn’t a clinic. It’s a place in Austria where you cleanse your mind, body and spirit. You can walk around in your dressing gown day and night, you don’t have to wear make-up, no one’s judging you. I spoke to a life coach and sorted myself out a little bit.'

The 25-year-old beauty began to feel out of sorts after the constant criticism became too 'cut-throat' for her to handle.

She explained Britain’s Times newspaper: 'I needed to get my confidence back. It can be very cut-throat, you need a thick skin. People criticise you a lot, dissect you bit by bit, your looks, your vocals, your skin, what you’re wearing!'

The Sugababes recently altered their line-up, with Jade Ewen joining Amelle and Heidi Range following the departure of Keisha Buchanan – the final remaining original member of the trio - amid allegations she had bullied Amelle.

Amelle admits her treatment has caused her to reassess how she lets others treat her.

She explained: 'If I could turn back time, I would have made it clear not to speak to me in certain ways or treat me in certain ways. I would have put a stop to that a long time ago.

'But I’m grateful to Heidi and Jade for understanding, and grateful to the label. Three weeks is a b***dy long time, especially in this industry.'

Gruff Rhys presents Separado!

Gruff Rhys presents Separado!

Super Furry Animals’ main man and solo star Gruff Rhys presents Separado! – a psychedelic, Westerntinged documentary film of his unlikely international road-trip. Four years in the making, the film of this unique personal odyssey – starring, written and soundtracked by Gruff Rhys – is now complete.

The spark for the adventure chronicled in Separado! originated from Gruff’s childhood fascination with horse riding, poncho-wearing singer/guitarist Rene Griffiths and his Latin infused Welsh love songs. Years later, Gruff investigates further to discover a deep-seated family schism, fatal horse race, little-known Welsh colony in Patagonia and that Rene is, in fact, a not so distant relative.

Gruff combines the ensuing quest to find Rene with a solo tour adding a rockumentary element to the magical realism of the film and taking him from North Wales deep in to South America. As well as some unorthodox live dates a stop-off in Brazil leads to a marathon recording session with local musical freedom fighter and ex TV repairman Tony Gattora; inventor of the part-drum machine, part-guitar 'Gattora’ instrument.

Gruff Rhys is most widely known for being one of the musical masterminds withinWelsh band Super Furry Animals. The brilliantly maverick songwriter and vocalist’s discography also includes sublime solo output and the Mercury Music Prize nominated Neon Neon concept album based around the colourful life of John DeLorean. More recently Gruff founded his own 'Irony Bored’ record label and released Cate Le Bon’s widely acclaimed debut album.

Micro-budget epic Separado! has been partly funded by the Film Agency For Wales and Sony Entertainment, and produced by Catryn Ramasut’s ie ie Productions. Gruff was accompanied throughout his road-trip by cameraman and director Dylan Goch. The recently completed film will receive it’s premier at Soundtrack: The International Film and Music Festival for Wales on 19th November. Further screenings are planned and everyone involved hopes to bring Separado! to a wider audience over the coming months.

.music set to reshape the online music landscape

.music set to reshape the online music landscape

Next year the way the internet looks will be changed completely. As an alternative to .com and .co.uk, you will be able to own .anything, literally. With this, .music is expected to change the music industry's presence online too.

There’s no doubt that the .music domain name will be contested when it becomes available to buy early next year. ICANN, the governing body which decides who gets the right to manage these new domain name extensions, says that an application by a community of musicians, for example, would be favoured over a purely commercial application.

So a .music registry application specifically for local bands might outweigh an approach by the big record labels to capture the extension for themselves. You could, however, see a mix of the two if someone as charismatic as Apple made a play to create an online community of music lovers under the .music extension. Who will win out in this contest (or if alternatives like .band exist instead) is still unclear.

I suspect that many of the potential bidders are keeping their intensions under wraps for now. But come early 2010 and the opening of the application process, we may start to see the contenders emerge and be able to guess the future shape of the .music internet landscape.

Lindsay Lohan’s mum fears the worst

Lindsay Lohan’s mum fears the worst

Lindsay Lohan’s mother fears 'time is running out' for the actress.

Dina Lohan – who has already expressed her fears her daughter may take her own life and has been cutting herself – told ex-husband Michael Lohan how the 'Mean Girls’ had started drinking again and was concerned at what the alcohol would do to her.

She said in a leaked phone call posted on website Radar Online: "Time is running out with this kid. I know I'm her mother and I feel it and I'm scared.

"She'll open up to you but it's nothing compared to what's going on with this kid. And don't tell her I told you anything or try to weasel s**t out of her... she'll tell you when she's ready to talk about s**t. Right now all I know is she's starting to drink and that's bad."

The phone call was made in 2008 and the tape, along with many others, have been leaked by Michael, much to Dina’s fury.

In other tapes, Dina told Michael – who is estranged from Lindsay - how the 23-year-old actress had been cutting herself as her life spirals more and more out of control.

She said: "Her cutting herself and hurting herself? Yeah, it's bad Michael, it's bad."

Michael recently spoke of his fears for his daughter, saying she has an addiction to prescription drugs which he fears will kill her.

He said: "I want my daughter off prescription medication. She never needed it in her life... I'm not going to watch my daughter die. Hate me now, but you love me more later because I'm gonna turn her life around."

Rihanna refuses $10,000 bottle of champagne

Rihanna sent back a $10,000 bottle of champagne because she didn’t know the people who had bought it for her.

The 'Umbrella’ singer was partying at Los Angeles nightclub The Bank at Wonderland when American Football Braylon Edwards and his teammates sent the expensive drink over to her table.

However, Rihanna refused to accept the gift because she had no idea who they were.

One partygoer said: "She didn't know who they were, so she sent it back."

While Rihanna is bought drinks when she goes out, Kiefer Sutherland buys his fans a beverage.

The '24’ actor stunned bar staff when he bought all of their customers a drink after he and some crew members of the hit US drama series popped into The Spot in San Pedro, California, after finishing a shoot at seven in the morning.

According to an employee, Kiefer was enjoying scotch and cokes and decided to buy everyone in the venue - about 30 people - leaving him with a $500 bar bill.

He then gave staff an impressive $200 tip when he left.

The Xcerts tour and new album

The Xcerts tour and new album

2009 has been quite a year for THE XCERTS. It all kicked off with the release of their amazingly anthemic single 'Crisis In The Slow Lane' which The Observer called a 'classic piece of air-punching melancholia'. This was swiftly followed with the release of the band's eagerly awaited Dave Eringa (Ash, 3 Colours Red, Idlewild...) produced debut album 'In The Cold Wild We Smile' which got glowing reviews across the board (Kerrang! 4/5, Rock Sound 8/10, Big Cheese 5/5). For the launch of the record the band took to the waters of Loch Ness and performed a very special show on a boat!

The band were invited to play at British Anthems in Tokyo and were flown out to the music industry showcase by the British Embassy to perform live and represent their country. In June the band released the single 'Just Go Home' and embarked on tours with Feeder and My Vitriol.

The Xcerts played a whole host of festivals over the summer including Wickerman, Truck and Boardmasters, winning over new fans with every show. To coincide with this the band released a very special live album 'Live At King Tuts' exclusively through iTunes which was recorded at the band’s sold out launch show for 'Crisis In The Slow Lane'.

Last month the band released their third single 'Nightschool' and toured with their childhood heroes Idlewild, friends This City and musical stalwarts Funeral for a Friend, despite bassist Jordan Smith being forced to do the tour with a broken wrist! Never content with wresting on their laurels The Xcerts will be hitting the road for one final time before the end of the year.

Dates below:

November
12 The Registry, Portsmouth
17 The Freebutt, Brighton
18 Barfly, London
19 New Slang @ McClusky’s, Kingston
December

As well as all of this The Xcerts have found time to work on material that will form their as yet untitled second record. You can expect to hear the first of the band's new material in early 2010.

Celine Dion to keep trying for another baby

Celine Dion has vowed to keep trying for another baby.

The 41-year-old singer and her husband Rene Angelil, 67, were told by doctors in August she was pregnant after undergoing a course of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment, but days later were told it hadn’t worked.

Despite more subsequent attempts at the treatment, Celine and Rene are refusing to give up hope of having a sibling for eight-year-old son Rene-Charles.

Rene said: 'Dr. Zev Rosenwaks believed that the procedure/pregnancy took, but that wasn’t the case. We found out some days later. We were shocked.

'We are living the reality of the majority of couples who have to use IVF. The process can be long and arduous.

'But today, we are full of confidence. Celine is more determined than ever. She doesn’t let go.'

The couple – who conceived Rene-Charles after fertility treatment – are now preparing for another course of treatment in New York this weekend.

Rene added to Canada’s Journal de Montreal newspaper: 'I admire all the women who go through such a tough process. Since April, she has undergone numerous examinations, multiple hormone injections and blood tests.

'Celine and I didn’t get discouraged , we put our faith in life and in the stars.'

Grizzly Bear announce March tour dates

After a sensational year in 2008, which saw the band support Radiohead and Paul Simon in the US (becoming Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s 'favourite band in the world’) and perform on Letterman, Grizzly Bear returned with a breathtaking album, blending lush orchestral flourishes and a strong sense of melodic pop hooks with captivating and often immediate indie folk.

The album, 'Veckatimest’, has now sold over 25,000 copies in the UK and has hit the 100,000 mark in the US (debuting at #8 on the Billboard chart), resulting in critical acclaim across the world not just for the record itself but also for their awe-inspiring live show, with recent New York show seeing Jay-Z and Beyonce in attendance, leading Jay-Z to later describe the band as 'incredible’.

Paul McCartney has inspired son to make music

Paul McCartney has inspired son to make music

Sir Paul McCartney has inspired his son to make music.

The Beatles legend is a massive influence on James, 32, who has formed The Light with pals Bryan Johnson on drums and bassist Charlie Turner, who grew up in Allerton, the same area of Liverpool where Paul spent his childhood and inspired many of the group’s later hits.

James – who plays a cherry-red Fender Stratocaster guitar given to him by the international star – said: "I have been playing music since I was nine and writing along the way.

"I met my band about a year ago. Producer David Kahne introduced us and my dad helped.

He added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper: "I am currently recording an album. The music was inspired by The Beatles, Nirvana, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Radiohead and all good music."

James is not the only family member to be inspired by Paul’s music – his grandchildren like impersonating him.

Earlier this year, the bassist turned down the chance to recreate his biggest hits by playing the new edition of the computer game 'Rock Band' - which gives gamers the chance to imitate members of the legendary group.

However, Paul's grandchildren, 10-year-old Arthur and Elliott, seven - the children of his daughter Mary - jumped at the chance to play the game.

Creative Producer Giles Martin - the son of Beatles producer Sir George Martin - said: "I was at Abbey Road studios the other day and Paul was there.

"He was with his daughters Beatrice and Mary, who had her boys with her and I said to the boys, 'Do you want to play the game pretending to be your grandfather?' They loved it."

Ray Davies duets with Chrissie Hynde

Ray Davies releases 'Postcard From London’, December 7th – an uplifting and compelling duet with Chrissie Hynde, which has just been added to his acclaimed summer release 'The Kinks Choral Collection By Ray Davies’.

Written and produced by Ray Davies 'Postcard From London’ was recently recorded by Ray and Chrissie at Konk studios. Instantly memorable upon its first listen it has the potential to rank among the great male & female duets.

The track kicks off with Chrissie Hynde’s timeless voice, beautifully complemented by Ray Davies’ striking and distinctive vocal. It also features a nape prickling, epic crescendo with choral refrains from the Crouch End Festival Chorus.

'It feels as if the people I wrote the songs for are singing it,' Davies said of the Crouch End vocal. 'They display an ingenious palette of choral techniques.'

Directed by Julien, Ray and Chrissie shot the video for the single earlier this week (November 3rd) in various places around London tracing Ray’s lyrical past including The Statue of Eros steps, Carnaby Street, beneath the Charlie Chaplin statue in Leicester Square and on the parapet of Waterloo Bridge.

Davies with his regular backing group and the Crouch End Festival Chorus created 'The Kinks Choral Collection’ (released June 15th), a compelling survey of Ray Davies’ work that casts fresh and unexpected light on some of his key compositions.

Backed by the Crouch End Festival chorus, Ray Davies plays 5 shows in December, which will feature songs from 'The Kinks Choral Collection’.

Little Boots wants to join the Sugababes

Little Boots wants to join the Sugababes

Little Boots wants to join the original Sugababes.

The 'Meddle’ singer said she would love to join the girl group’s original line-up – Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, and Siobhan Donaghy - if they have a reunion.

She said: 'They could call themselves The Real Sugababes. It would knock the current Sugababes out of the water.

'If one wasn’t up for it, I could be the blonde one.'

Keisha - the last original member - was ousted from the band in September after months of feuding with bandmates Amelle Berrabah and Heidi Range.

Despite recent speculation, Keisha has insisted she is not planning a reunion with Mutya and Siobhan, who formed the trio in 1998.

Her spokesperson said: 'Keisha is definitely 100 per cent not going to be involved in any kind of Sugababes reformation. Keisha has solo projects that she's working on which will be out next year."

Keisha’s replacement in the current line-up of the group, Jade Ewen, recently said she is terrified of meeting the singer.

Jade, 21, said: "I haven't met her yet. I'm quite scared. I'm sure she wouldn't do anything to me..."

Siobhan was the first of the Sugababes to leave the group, departing in 2001 to be replaced by Heidi Range, while Amelle Berrabah joined the group in 2005 to replace Mutya.

Frightened Rabbit return to London for intimate date

Frightened Rabbit return to London for intimate date

Frightened Rabbit return to London on the 6th November to premiere new material in their first ever show as a five piece, joined by new recruit Gordon Skene, formerly of Make Model. Tickets are available to buy from Monday 2nd at www.wegottickets.com or www.kililive.com or www.seetickets.com

Returning from headline dates in the US with labelmates The Twilight Sad and We Were Promised Jetpacks, Frightened Rabbit have been a hive (warren?) of activity even ahead of their UK tour. In a whirlwind week last week, the band stole the show at the inaugural Scottish Royal Variety Show and put in a special date at In The City headling Drowned In Sound’s 9th birthday party. Back in London they supported Biffy Clyro at Q Magazine’s Awards Show at The Forum, and there were scenes of pandemonium back in Edinburgh at the HMV Picturehouse where the band played a benefit for the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival.

A stirring new single 'Swim Until You Can’t See Land’ is released through FatCat on 16th November, a primer for the band’s forthcoming abum, due Spring 2010, Boasting a stunning string arrangment from labelmate, Teutonic ivory-botherer, Hauschka, 'Swim Until You Can’t See Land’ takes up where we left off, a hugely anthemic song that is perfect as a first indiacator of the new album’s direction, it’s very upbeatness perhaps to be read as a subconscious riposte to the angst of the preceeding, 'Midnight Organ Fight’ album. Scott expands, 'Swim Until You Can’t See Land’ was the title I had in my mind before I even started writing the album; I was becoming more and more interested in the idea of a rejection of the habits and behaviour most people see as normal, and in turn embracing a certain madness. It’s about losing your mind in order to reset the mind and the body. Forget what’s gone before and wash it out. This is not necessarily a geographical journey, as the 'swim’ can involve any activity in which you can lose yourself. It’s a good introduction to the record as the theme unravels therein.'

The band premiered three new songs - including 'Swim Until You Can See Land’ – in August at the Edinburgh Festival, The Fly reporting a performance 'life-affirming, the crowd’s reaction almost frightening. Seldom do bands inspire such a fanatical and justified response to their music. Unquestionably, Frightened Rabbit tonight is the best show of The Edge Festival so far.' The Herald, simulary moved; 'Judging by the ovation that greeted Frightened Rabbit as they ambled on stage, this Glasgow based band have truly arrived.'

Over the last two years Frightenened Rabbit have become one of Britain’s most fiercely taken-to-heart new bands, publically feted by fellow musicians like Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), Nick Harmer (Death Cab For Cutie) and Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro), and no wonder – 'Midnight Organ Fight' was a visceral - bordering on the metaphysical - break up record, and loaded with memorable, heartbreaking songs.

Frightened Rabbit: Scott Hutchison (vocals, guitar), Billy Kennedy (guitar, keys), Grant Hutchison (Drums, vocals), Andy Monaghan (bass, keyboard, guitar), Gordon Skene (guitar, keys).

As they prepare for their sold out November 09 tour, La Roux are excited to announce a follow up UK tour in spring 2010.

Boyzone plan Gately tribute album

Boyzone plan Gately tribute album

BOYZONE are to release an album in tribute to their late bandmate Stephen Gately.

The Irish pop stars will include a number of songs which feature Gately's voice on the LP.

Gately died suddenly aged 33 on October 10 from natural causes at his home on the Spanish island of Majorca.

Speaking to Sky News, lead singer Ronan Keating said: "We're going to make the next album for Stephen... we have a couple of songs with Stephen's vocal on it so that's a saving grace.

"Thank God we have that - that's very important to all of us and we know the fans would really appreciate that too."

He added: "We want to stick together because we find comfort in being together at the moment."

Saxon UK tour starts this week

Saxon UK tour starts this week

After crowd-rocking performances at the Golden Gods awards, Sonisphere and Bloodstock, not to mention Biff’s special guest performance with Metallica in Paris in April, Britain’s favourite metallers, SAXON, will headline a 7-date UK tour in November.

Biff and the boys continue to delight their long-standing fans, as well as acquire a loyal following from a whole new generation. Of their massive resurgence, lead-singer Biff Byford says: 'Things are going really well and these shows will be a great end to a fantastic year – and feel free to send us your set list ideas.'

SAXON will be joined by special guests ANVIL and SUIDAKRA. Following the hit movie 'Anvil: The Story of Anvil' which so poignantly documented the band’s 30 year struggle, ANVIL, who headlined the Tuborg Stage at this year’s Download Festival, bring the heavy metal that inspired the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden and Megadeth to UK audiences. Anvil are: Steve 'Lips' Kudlow (lead vocals, lead guitar), Robb Reiner (drums) and Glenn Five (bass, backing vocals).

Slayer cancel tour

Slayer cancel tour

Slayer have had to bring their Canadian tour to a sudden halt because bass play Tom Araya has to undergo immediate surgery.

Slayer had just returned to North America after a sold out tour of Australia with Megadeth.

'What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to to get this taken care of,' Slayer guitarist Kerry King said in a statement.

Dates in Canada and the United States, as well as an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show have been put on hold.

'While all four of us are disappointed that we won't be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom's health. We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the Megadeth camp, and everyone associated with Jimmy Kimmel Live! for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon.'

Araya needs the surgery to correct a lingering back injury 'thought to be related to his on-stage activity.'

Alberta Cross release ‘Taking Control’

Alberta Cross release ‘Taking Control’

Alberta Cross are set to release new single 'Taking Control’ on November 23rd through Ark Recordings. Taken from their critically acclaimed debut album 'Broken Side Of Time’, released last month, the track was described by The Fly as 'a beautiful lulling rock number'. It sees the band showcase yet another helping of beautifully crafted rock, coloured with soulful acoustic touches.

'It’s about the big city and the draw to go out too much' explains guitarist/vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee. 'The way we felt when we moved to New York City. About getting a bit messed up...the dark underbelly that sucks you in.'

Following support slots with Oasis, Dave Matthews band and Neil Young, plus festival appearances at Coachella, Bonnaroo, SXSW, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza, Alberta Cross’ debut LP 'Broken Side of Time’ saw it’s much anticipated UK release on September 21st. Greatly received by press on both sides of the Atlantic, it took root in an April 2008 jam session and with the aid of a little drink and a little smoke, the five-piece jammed on a group of Stakee’s then-new songs with almost instant results. 'I remember thinking that night, 'This is gonna be insane,’' reminisces Stakee.

Their well-received debut EP, 2007’s The Thief & the Heartbreaker, was a modest, folk-minded, acoustic-based disc that garnered glowing reviews. But, for Stakee and bassist Terry Wolfers, it was a baby step. 'Broken Side Of Time’, meanwhile, is a giant stride ahead, one that marks the band’s official introduction to America. Recorded in Austin, produced by the band with Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Dead Confederate, Heartless Bastards) & mixed by John O’Mahony (Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Kasabian) at Electric Lady Studios, the album melds propulsive, throbbing bass lines and crashing waves of guitar to a haunting, impassioned voice that can sound ancient and Appalachian.

Something of an about-face from The Thief & the Heartbreaker, the album, says Stakee, bears the influence of years of frustration logged in the shadow of Manhattan: 'It’s kind of a desperation album, a darker album; it’s definitely angrier. We’ve been in a crazy place during the whole album, and you can hear that,' he explains. 'But we’re trying to give people truly soulful music, which is hopefully inspirational. I want to ease their minds and give them a little break from reality.'

Grohl worried about hits album

Grohl worried about hits album

DAVE GROHL has admitted that he is worried that the release of the Foo Fighters' Greatest Hits album could be seen as "premature".

The band's frontman said they had been putting off releasing a "best of" album for a long time, despite having a long standing obligation with their record company to do so.

Speaking to Radio 1's Chris Moyles, Grohl said: "It still seems premature because we're still a functioning, active band. Those things can look like an obituary.

"We were asked to do this a long time ago. We wrote it into a deal a long time ago - that's how it works.

"They started asking about four years ago, and we said, 'Don't we need some hits?'"

The 16-track LP, which was released on Monday, features hits from their six albums to date.

Grohl added: "It's like a CliffsNotes version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years. I think there are better songs than some of those."

The band are set to perform at this year's MTV EMA Awards in Berlin tomorrow night where they're nominated in the best rock category.

Lindsay Lohan brands her father a lunatic

Lindsay Lohan has branded her father a 'lunatic'.

The 'Mean Girls’ actress – who is seeking a restraining order from Michael Lohan – doesn’t want her dad in her life because he has abused everyone in her family.

She wrote on her Twitter page: "My father is a lunatic and doesn't even deserve such a title since he's never been around in my life other than when he'd threaten me and my family. He should be where he has always put himself after verbally abusing and physically abusing people all my life,-behind bars.

'Its so sad to get a phone call from my baby sister just now asking, 'why is daddy doing this?’ Through tears. He’s crossed the lines and hurt me and my family 4 the last time, So much for having a 'dad’,.. I’m going to spend some time with the ones that love me and i love now (sic).'

Lindsay also said she wants to change her surname because she doesn’t want to be associated with Michael.

She said: 'The next shopping spree I’m going on is for a new last name!!!'

Michael hit back at his daughter claiming he is only trying to help her as he is concerned she is addicted to prescription drugs and wants her to go to rehab.

He said: 'I want my daughter off prescription medication. She never needed it in her life, I’m not going to watch my daughter die. Hate me now, but you love me more later because I’m gonna turn her life around.'
